The mass dance was organized for a third successive year on the initiative of The European Commission Vice President Kristalina Georgieva, within the framework of the Balkan Trafik festival of Balkan music and art.

Traditionally a Horo is led by soloists of a renowned Bulgarian folk dance group. This time it was the Botevgrad Folklore Ensemble which took part in the Balkan Trafik festival. In order to attract audience and participants in the GrandHoro, the Bulgarian performers played several dances from various ethnographic regions of the country accompanied by characteristic Bulgarian music instruments like kaval, bagpipe, gadulka, drum and accordion. The aim of the GrandHoro was to show Bulgaria’s cultural richness before the inhabitants and guests of a big and cosmopolitan city like Brussels. This time another representative of the European Commission, the Slovene Violeta Bulc who is in charge of Transport, joined the GrandHoro, too.

Besides the Botevgrad Folklore Ensemble, several amateur dance groups from Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Germany were invited, along with dance groups from other Balkan countries – Albania and Turkey.

The Balkan Trafik festival was held for the ninth consecutive year. This time the big star of the event is Serb legend Goran Bregovic. The Oratnitza ethno fusion group arrived from Bulgaria especially for the festival.

The GrandHoro was organized with the cooperation of the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture and with the support of the Belgian authorities.
