According to satellite images from the Amazon\u00a0Protection System (Sipam) of the Ministry of Defense of Brazil, there has been a\u00a0reduction in the number of areas affected by fires in\u00a0the Legal Amazon\u00a0between\u00a0Saturday (24) and\u00a0Monday (26)\u00a0. The Sipam satellite identifies the\u00a0most critical areas affected by fire spots. The system helps to guide teams on the ground.<\/p>\n
Operation Green Brazil (#opera\u00e7\u00e3overdebrasil) is in its third day [on Monday\u00a026th] and has involved so far around 2,500 military\u00a0personnel, 15 aircraft (airplanes and helicopters),\u00a0210 vehicles and 10 boats. It started after the decree\u00a0determining the deployment of the Armed Forces in the\u00a0operations of Environmental Law and Order Operations\u00a0(known as GLOA), last Friday 23rd. This measure is in\u00a0place until September 24th.<\/p>\n
Military operations from the three forces (Navy, Army\u00a0and Air Force) are being coordinated by the Amazon Military Command and by the Northern Military Command.\u00a0The first is located in Manaus and is responsible for the states of Amazonas, Acre, Rond\u00f4nia, Roraima, Amap\u00e1\u00a0and parts of Maranh\u00e3o. The Northern Military Command is located in Bel\u00e9m and is responsible for the states\u00a0of Par\u00e1, Amap\u00e1, Maranh\u00e3o and parts of Tocantins.<\/p>\n
While the efforts to combat the fires continue, new\u00a0fire brigades are being trained and a number of preventive, investigative and awareness-raising\u00a0actions are being undertaken.<\/p>\n
The Armed Forces work in support of state governments\u00a0and in subsidiary activities in border areas, in indigenous lands and areas belonging to the Federal\u00a0Government. It is an integrated effort between different institutions and public security\u00a0authorities, such as the National Force, Military Fire Brigades, fire prevention and firefighting squads from\u00a0the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA), ilitary\u00a0Environmental Police forces and the Operational and Managing Center of the Amazon Protection System\u00a0(CENSIPAM).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
